Character and characterization in the story of Bitter Sugar (Jafar Shahri)

Abstract

"Character" is one of the important elements of the story; An element with pre-existing moral and conscious characteristics that is present in a variety of stories and plays; It is the basis of the story and all the events, narrative, theme and theme of the story revolve around him. However, "characterization" is one of the main components and one of the important and noteworthy techniques in storytelling that shows the ability and creativity of the author and can even be considered as a characteristic of his writing style. This descriptive-analytical study has investigated the element of "personality" and its types in terms of nature, extent of narrative role, variability, scope and type of application in Jafar Shahri's novel "Bitter Sugar". Findings show that the characters in the story "Bitter Sugar" are diverse in terms of application as comprehensive characters are seen alongside simple characters, but in terms of variability, the characters in this story (except one character), all static are.
