Abstract

The structure of the international system is an important variable that affects the strategies, orientations and decisions of countries at both internal and external levels; In such a way that this structure, in addition to the possibilities it offers to governments, also imposes restrictions on their behavior. Iran, as a country with special geopolitical, geostrategic and geoeconomic advantages in the Middle East, has always been considered by the great powers and has played a key role in securing the interests of these powers and the stability of regional policies. Given this, the main question of the present article is what effect did the structure of the post-Cold War international system have on the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in relation to it? The hypothesis of the article is that the ideological nature of the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran by criticizing the structure of the international system and pursuing a policy of changing the status quo, has created a gap and divergence in relations with the structure of the post-war international system. The results of the article indicate that since the formation of the Islamic Revolution, due to the influence of ideological components in foreign policy, the Islamic Republic of Iran has seen the structure of the international system in conflict with its principles and goals. As a result, to date it has devised its foreign policy against the structure of the international system. .
