Investigation of educational institutions of Quranic sciences in the Timurid period; a case study of mosques and schools

Abstract

The purpose of the current research is to identify the functioning of the Quranic educational system, mosque and school in the Timurid period. For this research, an analytical method with a historical approach has been used. The findings of the research show that the educational system has a special place in the history of Islam, the study and investigation of the cultural and scientific achievements of different ages and centuries requires attention to the educational organizations of that period, such as mosques and schools. Apart from being considered a place for discussions and debates, these places helped to spread and transmit Islamic culture. During the Timurid period, government officials each contributed to the growth of the educational institution. Despite the relative peace, political and security stability that occurred after the death of Timur in the territory of the Timurids, the living conditions of the people also improved and there was a suitable ground for movement. Scientific and cultural activities were prepared and many mosques, schools, libraries and educational circles were built. Therefore, in this research, an attempt is made to show how the Quranic educational systems functioned in the Timurid government by relying on library documents and resources. The findings of the research indicate that, on the one hand, the Timurids were taking steps by providing educational facilities
