Abstract

The movement of the nationalization of the oil industry was a socio-political movement which was in line with the rule of national independence. The nationalization of the oil industry began in 1949 with the formation of the National Front. The aim of this movement was to dominate national resources and interests and to cut off foreigners from domestic affairs, which was accepted and supported by the majority of the people from the National Front, premiership of Mossadegh, and to advance the decision to nationalize the oil industry. Markets and merchants, as part of the active socio-economic forces of Iranian society, supported the movement through political activity in the nationalization of the oil industry. The question of the present study is what were the motives and goals of traders and marketers in supporting the nationalization of the oil industry? The hypothesis of this study is that traders and markets analyzed the nationalization of the oil industry in favor of domestic trade and commerce. The research method in this article is historical (inductive), the method of collecting information is documentary and library and writing method is descriptive-analytical. The findings of the study indicate that merchants and bazaars in the crisis and revolution periods, have provided economic support to traditional political forces, in this regard, many markets were with Mossadegh during his premiership and also supported him after the coup.
