Designing an educational lesson plan in English with banking objectives: A case study of the Export Development Bank of Iran

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to design an English language lesson plan with banking objectives in which employees of the Export Development Bank of Iran are used and to achieve the objectives of the research, needs assessment using four research tools questionnaire, interview, observation and review of documents and based on a The research was combined. Based on the data from the needs assessment, specific learning objectives were identified. The obtained results indicate that the needs assessment shows that all four main language skills with different priorities are important in the Export Development Bank of Iran. Accordingly, an educational lesson plan was designed focusing on speaking and writing skills as the first priority, reading skills with medium priority and listening skills with low priority. Based on the objectives, the present researchers used a comprehensive-ح centered and subject-oriented curriculum approach so that bank employees could acquire the knowledge and ability of English required for banking. The main application of this research can be for course designers. In other words, a carefully developed and planned training course for banking purposes provides a theoretical framework for the specific and effective use of English. The integrated English language course plan for banking purposes includes 13 main topics: banking services, bank accounts, checks, payment orders, credentials, transfer letters, collections, guarantees, loans, correspondence, foreign currencies, contracts, telephone calls. In addition, English language learners with specific communication goals in the bank can benefit from the results of this research in practice.
