Investigating the Political Participation of Citizens older than 18 in Ahvaz, Iran

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to study the political participation of citizens over 18 years of age and living in the eight districts of Ahvaz municipalities. To describe and explain political participation in the theoretical framework of this research, theories of 1- Theory of usefulness of political participation 2- Theory of social network 3- Theory of political trust 4- Theory of economic and class status have been used. The sample size of this research was equal to 384 people which was obtained using Cochran's formula and among the residents of streets, neighborhoods and eight districts of Ahvaz municipalities randomly and by multi-stage cluster sampling method. The data of this research have been collected in a survey using a researcher-made questionnaire. SPSS software was used to analyze the data of this research. According to the data related to the regression table of this study, the independent variables of social capital, political trust, socio-economic status, mass media use and ethnic identity, respectively, have the greatest impact on the dependent variable of research, ie political participation of citizens over 18 years. They had the city of Ahvaz.
