Abstract

The purpose of this article is to investigate the emotional role that language teachers in Iran experience in dealing with their language learners, educational colleagues and institutions. For this purpose, 52 language teachers of educational institutions (33 men and 19 women) were selected by random cluster sampling using Cochran's formula from the statistical population (77 people). In analyzing the data obtained from this research, the thematic analysis method of Seidman's three-stage social-constructivist approach was used and to guarantee the validity of the research results, the exploratory analysis method with a qualitative approach was used. Findings from this study showed that 78% of teachers participating in the study have warm and sincere emotional relationships with their students because in addition to teaching them, they also had a moral guidance role. Regarding the relationship of language teachers with other colleagues, about 86% were satisfied with the intimate relationship between colleagues and only 14% expressed dissatisfaction due to lack of respect and carelessness. About 79% of teachers expressed dissatisfaction with the cold and instrumental attitude of the directors of institutions and sometimes ignoring the issues and problems of teachers in the environment of institutions. Also, about 85% of language teachers are discouraged by administrative and political rules and regulations. Of course, in addition to the negative emotions, many teachers were satisfied with their warm and intimate relationships with language learners, parents and their position as language teachers.
