Abstract

Food has a wide impact on society and is directly related to human health. Ensuring health and food security has long been one of the most important tasks of governments and food production and supply has always been considered as one of the strategic plans of governments. There are several ways governments can protect this right. One of these measures is the criminal protection of the right to food and the criminalization of related threatening behaviors. The purpose of writing this study is to identify the types of criminal protection of the right to food through punishment and sentencing. In the Iranian legal system, the legislature seeks criminal protection for the most important right-to-food threats by criminalizing this right, while criminalizations and criminal responses have been made to protect the right to food in the context of targeting criminal policy. It has not been comprehensive and has not led to the creation of a legal cover to fully support all aspects of the right to food.
