Abstract

Liberalism, as a term of political thought, has many meanings. The main reason for this research was that what is the relationship between the concept of tolerance in the school of liberalism and tolerance among religious intellectuals in Iran? In this regard, it was assumed that the framework and intellectual characteristics of Iranian religious modernists have profound differences in the field of values and moral education with liberal ideas. This research is applied in terms of purpose and descriptive research in terms of correlational research, which has studied the subject by relying on the library function. Studies have shown that this value has the same meaning in the two schools. But there is also a subtle difference in this value. If tolerance is used as a moral attribute meaning easy-going, tolerance, chivalry, foresight and freedom, it is approved by Islam. But tolerance means complete indifference to the moral beliefs and behaviors of individuals and groups leading to moral relativity. Accordingly, anyone can have any kind of moral beliefs and behavior.
