Abstract

Water is an effective environmental resource in the sustainable development of countries. Although most of the earth's surface is covered by water, only a small part of it can be used by humans, so all the planning of human societies should be done according to this limitation. The current research deals with the social analysis of environmental behavior of Gorgani citizens based on water consumption behavior. The research problem is the attitude and behavior of Golestani citizens' water consumption. By reviewing the contemporary theories of environmental sociology and the research done in this field, the set of factors that seemed to be able to contribute to the explanation of meaningful environmental behavior and especially water consumption behavior were included in the analytical model. A sample consisting of 386 citizens of Gorgan was selected using the multi-stage cluster sampling method. A questionnaire containing demographic variables and a set of questions about environmental behavior and attitude, attitude towards water consumption, environmental knowledge and awareness about water consumption and religiosity was made available to the sample. The collected data were analyzed based on the conceptual framework consisting of metamaterial values, new environmental paradigm, ecofeminism and rational action theory.
