Investigating the relationship between social commitment and political participation among the citizens of Bandar Abbas

Abstract

Political participation, which entered the political literature of political theorists following the process of socialization of human beings and interference in the political management of countries, plays a vital role in the system of indirect democracy and is the main mechanism for achieving popular sovereignty. Considering the importance of discussing political participation, the present study seeks to answer the main question of whether there is a difference between different dimensions of social commitment and participation by using field method, survey technique, questionnaire tool and using SPSS and Smart PLS software. Is there politics among the citizens of Bandar Abbas? The statistical population of the present study is citizens aged 18 and over in Bandar Abbas, whose number is about 450 thousand and 384 of them have been studied as a sample size. The results show that the relationship between the total amount of social commitment (0.35) and its dimensions, ie voluntary observance of norms (0.43), internalization of values (0.37), commitment to society (0.40), is the same Self-concept with others (0.32) and family commitment (0.25) have a positive, direct and significant relationship with citizens' political participation. Therefore, all research hypotheses are confirmed. The results of the structural equation model (Smart PLS) also showed that the total effect of the independent variable of social trust on citizens' political participation is 0.55.
