Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the patterns and the effect of adapting international accounting standards on the information content of financial statements with a political approach. The standard model for calculating information content was used to measure the information content of financial statements. According to the total number of companies listed on the Tehran Stock Exchange and using the sampling method of the study, 240 companies listed on the Tehran Stock Exchange were tested and their financial statements were collected from the site. Another part of the information was collected by a questionnaire. Finally, the obtained data were analyzed by statistical methods and software.
Hypothesis testing showed that international accounting standards have more information content than national accounting standards. The results also showed that the financial managers of the financial managers of the companies have sufficient information about the amount of their identifiable income under the International Financial Reporting Standards. Hypothesis testing also showed that the use of accounting standards makes investment attractive to foreign investors, but is not a sufficient way to attract foreign investment. Finally, this study showed that the convergence model is the best model for accepting international financial reporting standards in Iran.
