Abstract

This article aims to examine e-elections and the spread of democracy. The question that shaped the present study is what is the relationship between the existence of the necessary infrastructure for e-elections and the growth of digital democracy in Iran? Finally, the researcher began his work by mentioning a hypothesis. The hypothesis presented in this study is that the existence of the necessary infrastructure for holding electronic elections will open the field for the growth of digital democracy. In this study, the library method was used to collect data and the qualitative interpretive method was used to analyze the information. The results showed that although in the light of the institutionalist theoretical framework of e-government and e-elections, which is one of the important branches of e-government, the authoritarian role of the Iranian government has diminished, but the government is interested in expanding this method of elections in the country. An example of this can be seen in the student elections that are taking place in universities.
