Abstract

In Iran and Egypt, Mojtaba Bozorg Alavi and Najib Mahfouz are two current writers in the field of contemporary fiction. Attention to literary mission has reflected many social and group concerns in their fiction. Therefore, in the present study, citing library sources and descriptive-analytical method, the stories of the mentioned authors have been studied based on the components of sociological critique and comparative approach (American school). The results of the research show that the two have expressed their intentions and criticisms by intelligently combining politics and society. They speak of the violation of women's rights in the society of Iran and Egypt at the time, the despair of the people, the incoherence of social relations and the landlord-feudal system. Also, the reference to social shortcomings such as: addiction, betrayal, gambling, poverty, theft, murder, prostitution, etc. is quite evident in the works of the two authors. In addition, addressing social discrimination and the importance of literary mission are highlighted in the great Alawite fiction and in the preserved works, such as: disorder of society and the prevalence of lawlessness and the domination of the wicked and anti-colonialism. Overall, most of the stories of these two authors were the result of their literary reaction to the shortcomings of the society in which they lived. Thus, the story has been a critical tool for representing and pathologizing these deficiencies in the first place and trying to address them in the next step.
